UPDATE: Cody the Pom is Healing Well
Last week, I blogged about Cody, a Pomeranian who was brought in by his negligent owners and surrendered to our shelter. His hair was so dirty and matted that flies had laid eggs in the moist areas between the mats and his skin. Those eggs hatched, and maggots were devouring about 80 percent of his back. It was truly awful - one of the worst I'd seen as a veterinarian.
We shaved him, cleaned his wounds, gave him fluids and put him on a strong dose of antibiotics. We weren't sure if he'd make it.

We had an outpouring of support for Cody. In fact, our blog, our website, and Facebook page received more hits than ever before.
We're happy to tell you all that Cody did survive, and it looks like he's going to be fine!
Here are the latest pictures. As you can see, he does have some healing to do, but he's feeling much, much better. Thanks to the support and donations from people like you, we have been able to change the course of Cody's life (he would have been euthanized in most other shelters), and in the lives of hundreds of other wonderful pets and the people who love them.
Cody will be available for adoption as soon as he has healed. If you are interested in adopting Cody, or if you would like to help us to continue to do the work we do, please visit us at www.westernplainsanimalrefuge.org. Together, we can continue to make a difference.
